Michelle Obama once said, “There is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish.” Tiwa Savage is an embodiment of these words by the Ex-FLOTUS as she keeps breaking boundaries and exploring new heights in her music career. She constantly changes the narrative of the popular saying “it’s a man’s world” with her achievements and tackles the male giants in the music industry. On “Celia”, she pushes through her limitations.

“Celia”, officially her third studio album, according to Tiwa Savage was named after her mum. In an interview with Apple Music, Tiwa Savage said, “Celia is my mum’s name and I wanted to pay homage to her. She embodies everything that this album is”.

“Celia” is a 13 track album where Tiwa Savage pours all her emotions and exposes all of her shades, secrets, Feminism, and guilty pleasures. On “Ole” which featured Naira Marley, she took a slight jab at Nigerian politicians and accused them of embezzlement which is one of the problems Nigeria is facing. She also bares it all on “Us” where she spoke about her marriage which ended unfortunately back in 2016. She sang the hidden details of her matrimony and the setbacks.

Furthermore, she stands solidly on feminism on the track “Koroba” as she defends the women who date politicians and rich men who are tagged, prostitutes. In an interview with Apple Music she said “If a young girl falls in love with a rich man or a politician, she’s instantly labeled a hoe or a prostitute. It takes two in that relationship so why is the man not being labeled that way? Why is it only the woman? ....That’s what “Koroba” is all about. We spend so much time putting women down for their actions and we don’t hold men accountable for theirs”.

On “Celia’s Song”, which is about her mother, she reminisces about her mother’s prayers and how she misses her. She accompanies this song with amazing vocals from a choir and how she helps pick her self up on this track.

Bringing projects like this, takes a lot of work, determination, and a lot of decision making and all these factors played in the favor of Tiwa Savage as the production on the album was solid and well delivered. Some of the line-up on the production included pheelz, London, Speeroach, Cracker Mallo, and many more.

“Celia” also featured amazing artistes who brought the project to life. The album featured artistes like Sam Smith, Naira Marley, Steflon Don, Dice Ailes, Davido, and UK artiste, Hamzaa.

In the words of Rihanna, “There’s something so special about a woman who dominates in a man’s world. It takes a certain grace, strength, intelligence, fearlessness, and the nerve to never take no for an answer”. With “Celia”, Tiwa Savage has shown equality if not dominance in this music industry that is man-centric. She has broken her fears, sang her soul, and left her mark. It is a resounding legacy that will live after the name of her mother, “Celia”. In Tiwa’s words, “This is Afrobeats from a very female perspective” and I couldn’t agree any less!!!
